ALDEGE BAZ BASTIEN MEMORIAL AWARD

ALDEGE “BAZ” BASTIEN MEMORIAL AWARD

bastien_200.jpgThe Aldege “Baz” Bastien Memorial Award was adopted by the Board of Governors at the start of the 1983-84 season to honor “Baz” Bastien, who for many years was associated with the American Hockey League.

At the time of his death in 1983, Bastien was the general manager of the NHL's Pittsburgh Penguins and alternate governor of the AHL's Baltimore Skipjacks.

Bastien played four seasons in goal with the AHL’s Pittsburgh Hornets (1945-49) before suffering a career-ending eye injury. He would go on to serve as head coach and general manager of the Hornets, leading them to the 1967 Calder Cup championship.

The Bastien Award honors the goaltender adjudged to be the best at his position, as voted by league coaches, media and players.
